Jerry L. Everhart, age 67 of Gas City, passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. Jerry was born in Marion to the late Frederick Dexter and Helen Louise (Carl) Everhart on June 5, 1947. He attended Marion High School with the Class of 1965. On February 7, 1969, he married Sheryl A. Maddox. He was a custodian at Marion Community School Corporation for thirteen years, retiring on May 1, 1991.

He was a member of Healing Heart Church of God in Marion. Jerry was a fisherman, huntsman, and racing fan. From the 1980s until his passing, Jerry was a very active Ham Radio operator. During his time as a Ham Radio operator, he spoke to many people, from helping connect a family to their missionary loved one whose communication from Honduras was cut off by a tornado, to helping military personnel connect to their families. Once, Jerry even spoke to the crew aboard the International Space Station.

In addition to his wife, Sheryl, Jerry is survived by one daughter, Kristen Jones, of Marion; one son, Bruce A. (Liz) Everhart, of Farmersville, OH; seven grandchildren, Cody (Adreana), Jacob, Caitlyn (Sebastian), Seven, Catheryn, David, and Claudia; one brother, Bruce (Patti) Everhart, of Marion; one sister-in-law, Shirley Miller, of Marion; and one brother-in-law, Tom (Inge) Maddox, of Jonesboro.
