Jerry K. Rone, 68, of Bloomington died Wednesday, December 20, 2012 at his residence. Born March 27, 1944 in Monroe County, he was the son of Charles and Mary (Rowe) Rone.
Jerry had a passion for auto racing. As a teenager he took part in the sport from behind the wheel of a drag car, stock car and sprint car. Throughout his life he fulfilled his love for racing in other ways. He took his love for the sport further than behind the wheel.
Jerry spent many years as a crew chief of sprint car racers such as Sheldon Kinser, Ricky Hood and Kevin Huntley. In 1970 Jerry won the USAC mechanic of the year. He was truly blessed with the intelligence and dedication it took to lead his drivers to victory.
Jerry was undoubtedly loved and will be remembered as one of those people you feel blessed to have known. He is survived by his sisters, Barbara Sumitt and Sue Miller, daughters, Eloise Clemens, Melissa Lowery and Melanie Wurr, stepsons, Jim McIntire and Jerry McIntire, stepdaughter and son-in-law, Judy and Tracy Koontz, thirteen grand children, J.R., Kirbee, Tyler, Taylor, Cody, Jeremy, Josh, Jerrod, Travis, Brittany, Justin, Kevin and Kaitlyn, five great-grandchildren, Bryce, Brayden, Blake, Dahlia and Hunter. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Judy (Hedrick) Rone, brother, Leonard Miller and grandson, Derrick Ping.
