Jerry Mejeur, age 92, went to be with his Lord on Sunday morning, December 18, 2016. A lifelong resident of Kalamazoo, he was born July 21, 1924 a son of Jacob and Elsie (Schipper) Mejeur. During World War II, Jerry was in the United States Army and served in occupied Japan. He was a member of Covenant United Reformed Church. He worked as a chemical operator at the Upjohn Co.

He loved taking long walks, eating, and spending time with his family. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Rena Rhem and Trena Onderlinde; three brothers, Uko (Dutch) Mejeur, Henry Mejeur, John Mejeur; and a son, Todd Mejeur. On March 7, 1952, he was united in marriage with Betty Joyce Slater, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Karen (Dennis) DeVries and Shelley Holcomb, both of Kalamazoo; Nine grandchildren, Jen (Chad) Klaassen, Brian (Kristen) DeVries, Betsy (Matt) VanderMeer, Jill (Matt) Quemada, Tara Mejeur, Brittney (Asim) Baig, Gregory Holcomb, Bill (Ariel) Mejeur, Josh (Christin) Mejeur; sixteen great-grandchildren, Alexis, Kaylee and Nolan Klaassen, Naomi and Levi DeVries, Braden, Ethan, Grant and Laila VanderMeer, Olivia Quemada, Zehra, Azaan and Nadia Baig, Zayleigh and Holden Mejeur, and Sonya; two brothers, Wubbo (Alene) Mejeur and Ebo Mejeur; a sister, Margaret (John) VanderPloeg; and many nieces and nephews.
