Jerry Donald Lee, age 82, of Newnan passed away on April 8, 2017 at Piedmont Fayette Hospital. Don was born October 16, 1935 to the late Jerry Walker and Leila Carden Lee in Chambers County, Alabama. He enlisted in the Army in 1954 and served for four years in Alaska learning to be a mechanic.
Don has always loved cars and met his wife, Sara, while she worked at a car dealership. It was employment with Playtex that brought Don to Newnan to make his home. He found his true life’s work at Delta Airlines where he was employed for 28 years. It was a natural for Don to find a job selling used cars for 13 years after his retirement from Delta. Don lived a simple life filled with trucks, racing and country music. Breakfast at Waffle House with his friends was an important part of the week and it was there that he picked up his nickname, “Speedy”. Don was a smart man by nature, but a quick learn when necessary.
He will be remembered as a sweet and loving husband by his wife Sara Middlebrooks Lee. He was a thoughtful and quiet role model to his children Jerry (and his wife Dana) Lee, and daughter Lisa Fain. His grandchildren are Lauren Holloway and Leslie Fain. He was great grandfather to Marissa, Brayden, Ana and Hadley.
