Jerry Dean Moore, 84, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2019, at his home in Abbeville, MS after a long battle with prostate cancer..M.. Jim Burke officiating. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Eastover Memorial Cemetery..M. until service time at New Prospect Baptist Church.. He was raised in and spent most of his life in Memphis, TN. He graduated from Memphis Evening High School of Memphis, TN in 1955. He spent 29 years, retiring as the Manager of the auditing department at the Maryland Casualty Company of Memphis, Tn. Jerry gave his heart to Jesus and was saved at the age of 23 when he was in the Army at Fort Benjamin Harrison, on Palm Sunday, 1959.. He was ordained into the gospel ministry in 1981 at Cherokee Baptist Church in Memphis, Tn. He served his first Associate pastor-ship at Wells Station Baptist Church in Memphis. His first pastorate was at Calvary Baptist Church in Bartlett, Tn. Since then, he has served at numerous churches in both Tennessee and Mississippi. Of all his church-work, what he enjoyed most was serving on mission teams. He has served on countless mission trips all over the United States and in four other countries. Jerry loved his family unconditionally, but he loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ first and foremost.. Jerry is survived by his wife Zana Moore of Abbeville, MS; his daughter Melanie Murry and her husband Lee of Abbeville, MS; and his son Jerry Moore, Jr and his wife Kristi of Abbeville, MS. He is also survived by three sisters: Connie Lewis of Tulsa, OK, Darlene Angel, of New Mexico and Elaine Erwin of Charlotte, NC. Also surviving him are 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 9 step grandchildren. His family asks that any memorials be sent to the Missions Department at New Prospect Baptist Church, 823 Hwy 334, Oxford, MS 38655.
