Beloved husband, father, and friend, Jerry Buckner passed away on September 29, 2020 at the age of 71. While Jerry was born in Texas, he considered himself a lifelong resident of New Mexico and called Albuquerque home. Jerry cherished his educational experiences and attended schools primarily in NM. He was a proud graduate of Lovington High School, where he excelled academically and athletically and had the honor of being named “Greatest Wildcat” his senior year. His successes carried over as he continued his education on a football scholarship to the University of New Mexico. Jerry majored in Business Administration and played football from 1967-1971.

While attending UNM, Jerry had the opportunity to work at the Greyhound terminal. This experience led to a career in transportation that included driving as a coach operator on regular routes and eventually to driving charters. Once again, his love of UNM prompted him to drive any and all UNM sports teams to various locations.

Jerry was a kind, and caring man who was often called upon to lend a helping hand. He was a member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and member of the church choir. As a season ticket holder for several UNM teams, he attended football, basketball (men’s and women’s), baseball, and soccer games. He especially enjoyed driving the UNM band and cheerleaders to multiple events.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas and Joyce Buckner; brother, Danny Buckner; and sister-in-law, Sandy Buckner. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Margery (Haury) Buckner; and his daughters, Winona Robinson and Jennifer Buckner. He is also survived by his brothers, Michael Buckner, Jack Buckner and wife, Jackie; sister, Donna Sharp; and various nieces and nephews.
