Jerry Cochran 1952-2022 Jerrel “Jerry” Fred Cochran, 69, of Newnan passed away Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Piedmont Newnan Hospital after a brief illness. Jerry was born June 18, 1952 in Newnan to the late Ernest Fred Cochran & Mary Eleanor Brown Cochran. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by father-in-law & mother-in-law, Weems McIntosh & Marion McIntosh, and sister-in-law, Muriel Miles. Jerry grew up in Newnan, attended public school where he graduated from Western High School in 1971. He was a lifelong member of Sargent Baptist Church where he was active in many of the church ministries including serving as a deacon, leading the RA’s, teaching the young adult Sunday school class, coaching the church softball team and helping organize the church’s annual car show. After graduating from Western High School, Jerry went to work for Ford Motor Co. where he retired after 31 years as a VRT Inspector. After retirement from Ford, he worked with Collins Transportation and Cooper Transportation before starting his own courier business taking his friends and their families to the airport and appointments. Jerry was dedicated to his community and its many charities. He headed up the Coweta County Fishing Rodeo and the Adopt a Soldier project in Coweta. He was active in the local 4-H program coaching shooting sports and assisting at the fairgrounds. Jerry was an integral part of the Powers Crossroads Festival for many years where he served on the board and helped setup every year. He was the past president of the Jaycees and volunteered assisting handicapped children at their Camp Dream. Jerry never met a stranger and made friends with people from all walks of life. He enjoyed cooking and socializing so much that he built a gathering spot at his house, The Boar’s Nest. Jerry made everyone feel special and he showed his genuine love for them by sharing his home cooked meals. He was known for his famous BBQ ribs. One couldn’t be around Jerry for long before he spoke about his “bride” and how proud he was of his children and grandchildren. Survivors include wife, Dianne McIntosh Cochran; daughters, Julie (Mark) Jersey, Melanie (Melissa) Cochran; sister, Sherry Cochran Story; sister-in-law, Jane Ledbetter; brother-in-law, Larry Miles; grandchildren, Brandon Jersey (Hannah Beardon), Katelyn Jersey (Kyle Lovell), Garrett Hathcock, Lauren Hathcock, Tyler Warr, Macie Warr (Brent Mathis), Rylee Warr, Caden Warr; his dear friend who is like a son, Glenn Render; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
