VANCE – Jerome (Ram) Connelly (81), husband of Bonnie M. Connelly departed his earthly home on March 31, 2017, resting in the knowledge that he will be resurrected to eternal life when Jesus returns to usher him into his Heavenly Home to forever live with his Lord.
Born on July 21, 1935, to Julius and Louise (Weathers) Connelly, (deceased) ‘Rome grew up in Reevesville, S. C.
His entire career was spent in the power line construction industry. He loved his work with Utilities Construction Company and was a conscientious and dedicated mentor to those with whom he worked and taught the business. A serious electrical injury interrupted his career at the age of fifty forcing him to retire. Not content to be idle, he learned a new skill in wood working and spent many hours crafting toys, hope chests, swings and various pieces of furniture which he enjoyed giving to his children, grandchildren and friends. He built his dream house on Lake Marion and he and his family enjoyed many happy hours boating, swimming and fishing.
A faithful Christian, ‘Rome was a charter member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Moncks Corner, S. C. Over the years he helped to establish three churches. He loved his Church and worked in many capacities including Elder until his health failed.
His most precious possessions were his wife Bonnie (Marchant) Connelly and his children and grandchildren. He and Bonnie were married on November 20, 1956, and enjoyed over sixty wonderful years together. They raised four children, Barry J. (Victoria) Connelly of Awendaw, S. C., Gail (Henry) Pape, Jacksonville, Florida, Pamela (Walter) Fickling Durr, Cameron, S. C., and Deborah Peoples, Vance, S.C. They were blessed with eight wonderful grandchildren, Sheldon Fickling (Haley Clamp) Columbia, S.C., Carmen Fickling, Swansboro, N. C., Josh (Caitlin) Pape, Johns Island, S.C., Timothy (Ashlee) Pape, Ft. Riley, Kansas, Rebekah (Jared) Groom, Gainesville, Florida, Leslie Mimms, Portsmouth, Va., Aundrea Connelly, Charleston, S.C. and Erika Connelly, Awendaw and Columbia, S.C., and six great-grandchildren, Caitlin and Annie Fickling, Elyssia Martinez, Landon and Sophee Pape, and Milo Pape, all who loved and respected him for the wonderful example he was as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and their forever best friend.
‘Rome was one of six children, his beloved sister, Mary C. Wimberly, St. George, S. C., who devoted many unselfish hours by his side before and during his illness; Barbara(Hubert) Kizer, Reevesville, S. C. , Dixie Whetsell, Dorchester, S. C., Robert (Mildred) Connelly, Reevesville, S. C., and Fletcher (Thelma) Connelly Orangeburg, S. C., and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
Rest in peace beloved husband, dad, granddad, brother and friend. This void in our lives will only be filled when we meet you again in our Heavenly Home.
