Jerold Shpargel, 76, of Greensburg passed away Monday September 12, 2022. He was born on December 8, 1945, in Detroit Michigan. Jerry received a bachelor’s degree in Biology at Wayne State University and completed a master’s degree in Microbiology at Michigan State University. While at Michigan State he met his wife, Shirley. They were married in Detroit in 1972, followed by a move to Greensburg. For 30 years, Jerry worked at Latrobe Area Hospital as the head of Microbiology. Jerry and Shirley remained happily married for 50 years. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Sol and Ruth Shpargel. He is survived by his wife Shirley, his children Sara (Jason), Karl (Tarah), and Rebecca (James), and his grandchildren Jack and Alexander. He is also survived by his sister Nancy (Douglas) and brother David (Monica), sister in law Nancy, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Throughout his life, Jerry was passionate about spending time with family. In his retirement, he had many hobbies including family genealogy, coin collecting, reading, Facebook, microbe organism of the month, art of the day, and volunteering at the library. Jerry placed an emphasis on heritage and staying in touch with his extended family. Devoted to his Jewish faith, he was a member of Congregation Emanu-El Israel and served as congregation treasurer for 10 years. Jerry was dearly loved and will be tremendously missed by all.
