Jennie S. Pesnell, 85
Jennie S. Pesnell, 85, of Alamogordo, N.M. passed away on Friday March 11, 2011 at Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center after a long battle with congestive heart failure. She was surrounded by her loving family and her minister during her passing.
Jennie was born Jennie Shirley Resnick on December 23, 1925 in Norwood. MA. She was raised in the Boston area, until she moved to California during WWII to work for the California Highway Patrol as a switch board operator. It is in California, that she met and fell in love with her husband of 49 years, Robert “Bob” M. Pesnell. They were married after a whirlwind courtship in Carson City, NV on February 7, 1946. Jennie loved being an Air Force wife, and experienced living in many parts of the country, until she settled in Shreveport, LA, where Bob retired from Barksdale AFB. It was there that she raised her family and worked as Director of Communications for an oil company until her retirement.
After Bob’s passing in 1995, Jennie relocated to Alamogordo, N.M. to be near her daughter and grandchildren. In the 15 years that she resided in this community, Jennie was extremely active. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, where she participated in various prayer groups and clubs. She was a volunteer for the Alamogordo Chamber of Commerce, and was a dedicated volunteer for the Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center Auxiliary for 15 years. Volunteering for the hospital was a huge source of pride for Jennie, who spent the majority of her time, running the surgical waiting room, and working in the GCRMC Gift Shop. Jennie was an extremely outgoing woman, and never met a stranger. She enjoyed the ability to interact and conversate with other people, and received many compliments for her ability to provide comfort to family members awaiting news in the surgical waiting area. Jennie also spent much of her free time socializing with her friends at the Alamogordo Senior Center.
Jennie is survived by her sister, Mildred Smith, of New York City, NY. Three daughters, Monica Helm, and her husband “Doc”, of Alamogordo. Maurice Cambre, and her husband Perry, of Abita Springs, LA and Diane Smith, and her husband Warner, of Arkansas. Two sons, Michael Swovlen, and his wife Beverly, of California and John Walker of Mexico. Jennie was a loving grandmother to 9 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. Jennie is also survived by numerous dear friends within the Alamogordo community, along with her precious dog, Sadie.
