Jennie Gertrude “Trudy” Hazellief Padgett Thomas left this earthly world on November 24, 2021, to be with the Father and those who have gone before her. She was born on November 12, 1928, to Wilbur and Carrie Thomas Hazellief in Basinger, Florida. She had two sisters: Annie Erma Lee and Carrie Emma Lou Hazellief.

Jennie Gertrude married Frank James Padgett and had two boys, James and Gary. After Frank died, she married James Harold Thomas (not related to Basinger Thomas’). Jennie Gertrude has lived her entire life in Okeechobee County, Florida. First living in Basinger, then in Fort Drum, and finally in Okeechobee City.

From an early age, Jennie Gertrude has been a devout Pentecostal. Her father was a preacher and visited many churches around Okeechobee County and neighboring Counties on Sunday and part of revivals. She was learning to play the piano from her mom before her mom died when Jennie Gertrude was eight years old.

As a member of the North Okeechobee Church of God, Jennie Gertrude would visit those needing companionship, bring food, or offer any help she could. She was part of the church choir and sang as part of a group in the church and other gatherings.

Jennie Gertrude was an amazing person and would do anything for you. She was thought of as a ‘social butterfly’ and loved visiting kinfolks. If needed she could be off the couch and into the kitchen in two seconds. She loves gardening and canning.
