SALEM – Jeffrey V. Zeck, 62, died at 11:55 a.m. Sunday, September 2, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. He was born January 11, 1956 in Salem, the son of the late Robert P. and Jeanne M. (Vaughn) Zeck.
Jeff was a 1974 graduate of Salem High School. He was a sales rep and field service technician at Willamette Valley Co. for 10 years and was previously employed at Demings. Jeff was Past Post Commander and Past District 6 Commander of the VFW York Drexler Post 5532, a member of the AMVETS Post 45 of Salem and the Independent Hose Company of Salem.
Jeff served as a “Tincan” sailor on the destroyer, USS Hoel during the Iranian Hostage Crisis of 1979 earning him the Navy Expeditionary Medal. He proudly served as an ordinance mechanic technician in the U.S. Navy from August 1975 to August 1979.
Jeff was known to put others’ needs and wants before his own. He had a caring heart for all those he knew and would do anything to help a friend. Jeff devoted his spare time to the Columbiana County Special Olympics, Super Kids Classic Soap Box Derby, Washingtonville Volunteer Fire Department and was a classroom helper at a local elementary school.
Survivors include a sister, Sue (Bob) Moore of Lakewood, CO; a brother, Tom Zeck of Salem; two nephews, Bobby Zeck of San Pedro, CA and Derek (Ali) Votaw and their son, Andrew of Golden, CO; a niece Torey (Jay) Ivanic and their children Otis and Emily of Golden, CO.
