Jeffrey “J.T.” Thorne, 61, passed peacefully on Thursday, January 02, 2020 at Mercy Medical Center. Jeff was born October 29, 1958 in Chariton, IA to Bill and Dru Thorne. Jeff grew up in Spring Valley, California, in the 8th grade, his family moved back to Chariton, IA. He graduated from Chariton High School in 1976 and in 1977 graduated from Indian Hills College. After attending Indian Hills Community College for building and trades, Jeff used his skills to dry wall many of the new homes built in Chariton, in the early 80’s. He continued his carpentry career until he started working with Stanberry electric. There he worked along side Rusty for many years and started bartending in the evenings. Jeff bartended at Sportsman’s for many years making many life long friends.
On May 02, 1980, he was united in marriage to Jewel D. Slack his high school sweetheart. They have been happily married for 40 years. Throughout their marriage they lived in Chariton by family and friends.
Jeff had a lot of hobbies, playing electric guitar, music, pool, softball. He was a big fan of the St. Louis Cardinal baseball and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Jeff and Jewel loved going out in their boat fishing to the local lakes. They share many hobbies fishing one that was near to both of their hearts. He liked to read non fiction books and can not forget his two miniature dachshunds Moby and Gretchen.
Jeff was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Charlotte Spangler, Walter and Sara Thorne. He is survived by his wife Jewel Thorne, parents Bill and Dru Thorne, siblings Greg Thorne of Toole, Utah, Valarie Martin of Des Moines, IA and Doug Thorne of Indianola, IA, in-laws Dennis and Marcie Slack, Randy and Pam Trenary, Scott and Dee McDonald, Shelly Williams, and Dennis Wilson and many nieces and nephews.
