On the evening of August 26, 2015, Jeff passed away surrounded by family and dear friends at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in LaPlata, Maryland, after a courageous battle with cancer. Jeff was 50 years old. Born in Jerseyville, Illinois, on January 16, 1965, Jeff was the third child of Richard and Patricia Phillips.
Soon after moving to Indian Head, Maryland in 1988, Jeff met his wife Alice “Sissy” Pickeral and together the two raised sons Tim Bowie and Casey Phillips. A devoted and proud father, Jeff volunteered to coach his sons’ basketball, baseball and football teams. Athletes throughout the community knew Jeff as their coach and friend. One of Jeff’s proudest moments was Casey earning a full scholarship to attend and play football at Virginia Military Institute. His two grandsons Carter and Nolan brought him much joy – they spent countless hours together riding tractors and playing in the backyard.
Jeff was preceded in death by his father, Richard Phillips. He is survived by his wife, Alice “Sissy” Phillips; sons, Tim Bowie (daughter-in-law, Amanda) and Casey Phillips; grandchildren, Carter and Nolan Bowie; mother, Patricia Phillips; sisters Vicki Turvey (brother-in-law, Eric) and Sue Cates; brother, Ryan Phillips; parents-in-law Bob and Alison Pickeral; brothers-in-law Mike Pickeral (sister-in-law, Amy) and Thomas “Bud” Pickeral (sister-in-law, Brenda); sister-in-law Robbi Evans (brother-in-law, Mike) and several nieces and nephews in Illinois and Maryland.
