Jeannette Ayleen Woods Struve, 87, passed away in Boise, Idaho, on Tuesday, August 10, 2010, of natural causes. Jeanne, as she preferred to be called, was born in Porterville, California, on March 6, 1923, to Robert Edgar Woods and Sara Woodhull Miller Woods. Jeanne grew up in the central valley of California, where she enjoyed outdoor activities with her older sister Marie, as well as summers in the Sierra Nevada mountains at their cabin in Camp Nelson, and at the beach in Morro Bay.
Jeanne graduated from John Marshall High School in Los Angeles, California in 1941. She attended Pomona Junior College, Pomona, California, and Los Angeles City College, graduating with an associate degree in dental assisting in 1943. During the war she worked as a dental assistant in Los Angeles, waiting for her sweetheart Ray (Rolland Dale Struve) who served in the Naval Air Corps during the war as a fighter pilot. They were married in Corpus Christi, Texas on June 27, 1945, and returned to California to raise a family, where Ray worked as a manager for Montgomery Ward. The family moved around the west during his career, living in California, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. After Ray left Montgomery Ward in 1969 he worked as a store manager at B-Mart in Ogden, Pocatello, and Idaho Falls. After retirement Ray and Jeanne moved to Sterling, Virginia, to live with their youngest son, David.
Jeanne was a devoted wife and mother, and raised three sons and two daughters. She presently has 19 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
The family wishes to give special thanks to the care givers of Boise Health and Rehabilitation for their compassionate care.
