Jeannette A. “Jana” Grebe, 76 years, of Jacksonville, IL died Sunday evening, October 15, 2006, at the Barton W. Stone Home in Jacksonville. She was born August 11, 1930, in Racine, Wisconsin; the daughter of Thomas and Cora Post Dykstra. She married Curtis D. Grebe on February 14, 1998, in Waukegan, IL and he survives.

She is also survived by two daughters, Cheryl Grunow (husband, Garry) of Clemmons, NC, and Denise Vander Wall (husband, Rich) of New Lenox; two sons, Tod Crowell of Houston, TX, and Don Crowell of Chicago; seven grandchildren, Karen Callahan (husband, Kevin), Brian Gardella (wife, Kristin), Jason Gardella (wife, Julie), Matthew Crowell (wife, Jessica), Joshua Crowell, Megan Vander Wall, and Nicole Vander Wall; 12 great-grandchildren; a stepson, Kendal Grebe (wife, Allison) of Acworth, GA; three step daughters, Carlis Grebe of Atlanta, GA, Darilyn Beekley (husband, Kevin) of Omaha, NE, and Lynette Maxhimer (husband, Terry) of Birmingham, AL; 8 step grandchildren; two sisters, Claire Purnell of Lake Geneva, WI and Nell Hile (husband, Bill) of Racine, WI; five brothers, Si Dykstra (wife, Lucy) of Racine, WI, Tom Dykstra (wife, Litz) of Topeka, KS, Fritz Dykstra (wife, Elaine) of Florida, Rein Dykstra (wife, Carrol) of Sturtevant, WI, and Andy Dykstra (wife, Joan) of North Carolina; and 28 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Don Crowell; a great-grandson; and two sisters, Grace Hoffert and Sharon Dykstra.

Mrs. Grebe graduated from Racine, Wisconsin High School, and the Salvation Army College for Officer Training in Chicago. She served several years as a Captain in the Salvation Army and was later employed during the 1980s as secretary to the CEO of the Jewish Family Federation in Chicago. She was an active volunteer for many years with the Salvation Army in Chicago and Jacksonville and with Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. She was a member of the Salvation Army Church. She enjoyed solving puzzles, collecting angels, and serving as a caring friend to others. She loved her grandchildren, travel, playing board games, her home, and her dog, Shelley.
