Jeanne Laverne Herrod, 63, of Cleveland Avenue, Fairmont, passed away on Monday, November 16, 2009 at Fairmont General Hospital. Mrs. Herrod was a retired school teacher with the Doddridge County Board of Education. She was born in Baltimore, MD on June 10, 1946, a daughter of Pauline Cummings Barnhart, and the late Lawrence Barnhart . She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Mason Lee Herrod, in January 1999. Surviving are three children, Don Mason Herrod, Baltimore, MD, Dean Michael Herrod, and his wife Ashley, Philippi, and Dawn Michelle Evans, Fairmont; seven grandchildren, Caitlyn Hope Herrod, Christian Thomas Herrod, Alexandria Paige Herrod, Brock David Herrod, Brayden Dean Herrod, Mason Dean Evans, and Bethany Anne Martin; one brother, Michael Barnhart, Baltimore, MD; and two friends who were significant in her life, Rex Dykes and David Bell. Mrs. Herrod received her undergraduate degree from Salem college in 1987 at the age of 40, having graduated Magna Cum Laude and her Master’s degree from WVU in 1991 at the age of 43, having graduated Suma Cum Laude. In 1994 she was nominated for Teacher of the Year in the State of WV, and is published in the book of Who’s Who among American Teachers. Jeanne was a woman with great integrity, and was devoted to and loved her family. She loved crafts, postcard-swapping, and her internet friends, both in the U.S. and abroad. She was Protestant by faith.
