Jeanne G. Newman, 95, of Jacksonville, IL died Friday, December 25, 2015, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.

She was born August 20, 1920 in Nashville, TN, the daughter of Louis and Josie Steinberg. She married Martin Newman on June 8, 1941 in St. Louis, MO and he preceded her in death on February 28, 2009.

She is survived by two sons, Richard Newman (wife, Toby) of Houston, TX and James Newman (wife, Susi) of Jacksonville; two daughters, Linda Price (lifelong companion, Sandy Pierce) of Wheaton and Laurie Hayes (husband, Michael) of Belleair Beach, FL; six grandchildren, Chad Newman of Chicago, Jeff Newman (wife, Erika) of Jacksonville, Mark Newman (wife, Elise) of Bellaire, TX, Rebecca Zey (husband, David) of Gunter, TX, Jennifer Hayes of Philadelphia, PA, and Sarah Hayes of Belleair Beach, FL; seven great grandchildren; a sister, Maxine Coffman (deceased husband, Carney) of Chesterfield, MO; and thirteen nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Allen Newman, and three siblings, Sonny Steinberg and his wife, Murnie, Carol Simon and her husband, Bill, and Marilyn Seltzer and her husband, Ray.

Jeanne was a dedicated community volunteer who was formerly involved with Holy Cross Hospital Women’s Auxiliary and later the Passavant Hospital Auxiliary. She was a life member of the Art Association of Jacksonville and was a former co-chair of the Beaux Arts Ball. She served as a Cub Scout leader when her sons were young and volunteered in many capacities with the Salvation Army. She was a member of Temple B’rith Sholom in Springfield. In her spare time, Jeanne had a passion for flower and vegetable gardening and playing bridge with her friends.
