Jeanette Tate, 83, of Meridianville, went to be with the Lord on Sunday while surrounded by her family, singing hymns, praying and loving on her.

Jeanette was a life long member of Flint River Baptist Church where she had an impact on many lives as she ministered as a disciple of Jesus Christ. She demonstrated what Christian family, ethics, integrity and faith look like in a believer. Jeanette taught and mentored people of all ages, but is especially remembered for her work with youth and young adults. She planted seeds of goodness that have changed many lives and in return she was greatly loved and was a momma to many.

As a young lady, Jeanette was a beauty queen – the 1955 Tristate FFA Queen. She was involved in a home ec club, and as a youngster showed calves. As a senior in high school, she was wooed by a fellow church member, Homer Tate. They married right after she graduated high school and started a family. She was a proper poised lady who loved to be well dressed, including having her nails painted and lipstick on. In the community, she taught etiquette lessons, based on what she was taught at Riverton High School (back in the day when etiquette was a class!).

She was loved as deeply as she loved others. Her daughter’s in law felt loved like they were her own daughters. The grandchildren became the focus of her life, spending vacations together, family outings and day trips. Jeanette invested herself in to their upbringing. She passed on to her family her faith in Christ and her love of family, fishing, travel and tennis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas M. & Annie Robinson Neeley and by her brother, Thomas Nelson Neeley;

Surviving family members include her husband of 65 years, William Homer Tate;  Her sons:  Mike Tate,  Steve (Jackie) Tate, Mark (Markeyta) Tate, Jeff (Michele) Tate;  Her grandchildren:  Kristen Colley, Sheree (Ronny) Mullins, Kasey (Stewart) McGill, Josh (Hope) Tate, Grant (Michelle) Tate, Miles (Hunter) Tate, Chase (Amanda) Tate, Meagan (Andrew) Hand, Hunter (Cyndle) Tate, Morgan (Cameron) Baker, and Madison (Jarrett) Swegles; 23 Great-grandchildren; Her brother, John William Neely.  She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
