Jeanette Hadden, 99, of Jacksonville, died Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at Jacksonville Skilled Nursing & Rehab.

She was born March 9, 1919, in Morgan County, the daughter of Charles O. and Marie Loughary Braner. She married John L. Hadden on Feb. 7, 1942, at Ebenezer Church in rural Jacksonville, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 18, 2011.

She is survived by three grandchildren, Matthew (Laura) Hadden of Burlington, IA, Rebecca Hadden of Chicago, and Phillip (Kara) Hadden of Jacksonville; two great grandchildren, Nicholas and Michael Hadden of Burlington, IA; and her daughter-in-law, Judy Hadden of Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by her husband; and her son, John Ronald Hadden.

Mrs. Hadden was a 1937 graduate of Jacksonville High School, and then graduated from Brown’s Business College. Prior to her marriage she had worked in insurance and then for the Scott County Farm Bureau in Winchester. She then worked for the Gebhardt Store and T&H Farm Supply in Jacksonville. Jeanette was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Prior to that she had been a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, where she served as organist for 60 years, and was author of the Ebenezer Church History. From 1970-90, she served as Coordinator of the Lay Witness Mission for the United Methodist Church. Jeanette was also a member and leader of the Explorer’s Bible Study for over 20 years, and she loved genealogy work.
