Jeane Langford Hackman Goodings, age 91 “and a half”, died Monday, October 19, 2020 at her home in Carver, Mass. She was born in Brighton, England to Reginald and Lillian Hackman and there is no doubt her life was meant to be an adventure. She was quite glamorous in the day and spent her time hob knobbing with celebs and making lifelong friends wherever she went. Losing her beloved Mother when she was 21 was heartbreaking but not too long after she gained a Stepmother, Katie who she adored and as an only child was happy to welcome her baby half-brother Nicholas to the family. It wasn’t long before she met her soon to be husband Rick who she could see would be the next link in her journey. She wanted to travel, see the world and he too wanted to start an adventure with her so they married in January 1953. And in April of 1954 they boarded the steamship Georgic with their Dalmation Charlie and left England for Halifax, Canada. They traveled from Canada to the West Coast and then the East Coast while starting a family and ending up in Scituate, Mass. There were always fun times – summers on Minot Beach, visits from family and friends abroad and entertaining for any reason. There were also tragedies – the devastating death of her son Roger in 1982 and a few years later the sudden death of her husband Rick. She always kept a stiff upper lip and eventually she met the love of her life, Arthur! They had an amazing 16 years together and during that time they went on cruises, spent a few winters in Florida and shared homes together before he passed away in 2001. She took every opportunity to travel, some extensive trips with her friend Judy to places like Katmandu, Venice, Pompeii and other parts of Europe. Many trips to Florida and numerous trips back to England to see family and friends. Over the past 20 years she enjoyed living at South Meadow Village where she made so many friends. She loved to play cards, do her luncheons with the Red Hats and the neighbors of cluster 45. She loved pretty much everyone she met and they loved her. People never forgot her – whether they knew her from her childhood or later in life, she always left a mark on people. She would be the first to tell you, “I love people”! She also loved animals, music of all kinds, her Gin & Tonics, spending time at Jenny Grist Mill, Judge Judy and most of all driving – she loved to drive and was so excited last year when she renewed her license at the age of 90! She had a specific way of doing everything, she was stubborn, independent and even as she got weaker you could be sitting right next to her and she’d get up to turn down the fan. Her name should have been in the dictionary next to the word “resilient” because that is exactly what she was. The most impressive thing about her was her spirit, her determination and her mind. It was 100% on point till her last day – she will be remembered with love and sadly missed by every person whose life she touched. She is survived by her daughter Candia Goodings Romano and her husband Ralph Romano; her son Michael Goodings and partner Gail Coit; her half-brother Nicholas Hackman and his wife Maria; her granddaughter Krista Lee Schneider and her grandson Ceej Schneider; her cousin David Geere and his wife Sheila; her cousin Victor Swain and his wife Gloria, their daughter Mona LaHaie and her husband Fred and their children; beloved close extended family members – her nephew Colin Stearman and his wife Marilyn, their sons Richard Stearman, his wife Kathy and their children, John Stearman, his wife Christine and their children; and her extended family in the UK.There will be a Memorial Service on the grounds of the Christ Episcopal Church in Plymouth on Sunday, November 8,2020 at 1:00. Masks must be worn and social distancing as much as possible. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Mum’s memory to the ASPCA or Dana-Farber.org
