WOODBURY- Jean Van Valkenburg Heyniger, 92, of Woodbury, widow of Cortlandt Heyniger, passed away quietly at River Glen Health Center in Southbury on Tuesday December 21, 2010 after a short illness.

Born in Waterbury, she was the daughter of Fred Stevens and Anne R.Van Valkenburg. After graduating from St. Margaret’s School and Randolph-Macon Women’s College in Lynchburg, VA, Jean married David R. Dunlap, Jr. of Mobile, Al, who was killed in the Pacific in WW II. Jean, (known as Teddy in Mobile), and her toddler twins moved back to Waterbury, where, in 1947, she married Mr. Heyniger, longtime friend and co-founder of Alcort, Inc. She was very active in Waterbury, past president of the Junior League and the VNA, until moving to Woodbury in 1955. The Heynigers maintained a winter home in Mobile until very recently.

She is survived by her son, Cortlandt S. Heyniger and his wife Martha Mahoney of Bethlehem, CT, as well as her daughter Sage Dunlap Chase and her husband Richard H. Chase of Elkins, NH. She was predeceased by her son, David R. Dunlap,III of Gulf Shores, AL. In addition she leaves nine grandsons and twelve grandchildren.
