Jean Thompson, 81, of Ft. Wayne, was called home to Heaven by her lord and savior, jesus Christ, on Sunday morning February 17, at New Haven Care and Rehabilitation Center.

A very special thank you to the entire staff of New Haven Care and Rehab and to the entire staff of Heartland Hospice who took such good care of a very special woman over these last three and a half years.

Jean was loved by all that knew her; and served as a surrogate mom to many through her life. Her working years were many. She worked various jobs over the years but always felt most fulfilled when she was working somewhere where she could be a true help to others. She worked in retail and as a nurses aide and QMA at various nursing facilities and temp agencies in the Ft. Wayne area.

Jean had been a devoted wife, twice. First to George Oakley, who preceeded her in death in 1961, and then to Larry Thompson who also preceded her in death in 2002. She had also been a loyal sister to her brother, Merle (Dorothy – still living) Sickle who passed away in 2001. She was the beloved mother of four. John (Stephanie) of New Haven, Barbara, who she has reunited with in Heaven, Alan (Karen) of Indianapolis, and Mary (Eric) Hargett of Ft. Wayne. But her biggest joys were her grandkids. Kerrie (Adam) Dunn, Michael (Fiona) Poe, Hannah (Casey) Moriarty, Scott Patrick, Storme (her first grandchild), Anya, DeeDee, Jacob, and Joshua. And her only great grandchild Lily.
