Jean McKinney, age 96, of Elkhart, Texas, departed this world on June 27, 2020, to spend the rest of eternity with her Lord and Savior. She was born on November 3, 1923 in Elkhart, Texas to J.D. and Nettie Owens Prater. She married R.L. McKinney, and that marriage was blessed with six children. She loved her family and dedicated herself to be the best mother that she could be. She loved to cook and loved to feed people. She also loved to sing, loved life, and loved Jesus with all her heart. She was a dedicated and devoted Christian and a faithful member of the Elkhart Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She will be remembered as a wonderful Christian example by everyone who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents J.D. and Nettie Owens Prater; husband, R.L. McKinney; sisters, Lucille Hanks and Gladys Herod; brothers, J.D. Prater Jr. and Charles Prater; and grandson, Scott McKinney.
She is survived by a loving family of four daughters, Beverly Anderson Sartain and husband Nolan of Palestine, Cathy Huddleston and husband Roy of Elkhart, Becky Harman and husband Jimmy of Woodville, Freida Starr and husband Charles of Chandler; two sons, David McKinney and wife Cathey of Elkhart, Ronnie McKinney and wife Shirley of Elkhart; one sister, Margaret Arisco of Port Neches; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
