Jean O. Camerlengo, 79, of Bergenfield, N.J., died on January 5th, 2023.
Jean was born on March 8,1943, in Jersey City, N.J. to John and Jennie Ochs. She was a proud Jersey City girl and 28 year Teaneck School educator.
She is now with her parents, brothers James and John, and her son Matthew James.
“Nan” is beloved by daughter Justine, son Christian and daughter Victoria, son Justin and daughter Vanessa. She was a very proud grandmother of Adam and Kaitlyn. Loved by Deb. She is missed by her canine companion, Betsy.
She loved her travels and time with all her fun sisters Janice, Pat, Sue and Pepi as well as her cousins. There are many nieces and nephews as well. Enjoyed taking groups of us to see her beloved Yankees.
She began teaching in Tenafly then spent the final 28 years in the Teaneck School system. Jean got her Math Degree at Jersey City State in 1965. Then earned masters in 1988 from JCS. She loved teaching, educating not just in math. With good friends Theo and Marsha they would corral over 100 students to the annual Washington DC trip. The students would experience such things as the Holocaust Museum, the Aquarium and the US monuments. Shockingly, when things fell right, the students were able to take in a Yankees game at Camden Yards. Even after retiring, she talked about these trips. She worked with others at “TJ” to make a “peace garden” and a “tiled wall of human concerns” at the school. She was always proud of her Teaneck students. Always happy to run into them later in life.
Jean had so many friends and neighbors that helped her throughout her life and stood by her through joy and sadness. She loved all of them.
