Jean Marie Coffman, 96, of Mulberry, passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at Mulberry Health and Retirement Community in Mulberry.

She was born March 13, 1926, in Pine Township, Benton County, to the late Roy and Ada (Nelson) Oneal. She was a 1944 graduate of Wadena High School. When Jean was a young adult, she was the drummer in an all-girl swing band, which is how she met Charles Coffman.  Jean was selling her drum set and Charles, wanting to meet her, pretended to be interested in purchasing it, the two met, fell in love, and were married on May 26, 1951, in Oxford.  Charles preceded her in death on October 27, 2011.  Jean was a homemaker and worked as a Banquet Hostess for Holiday Inn for many years.

Jean enjoyed bowling, golf, gardening, college basketball, and baseball, particularly the Chicago White Socks.  A lover of all music, she favored Big Band Music, such as Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, and Benny Goodman.

She is survived by her 3 children, Jackie Hicks of Lafayette, Ronald Coffman of Greenwood, and Dwight Coffman of Fishers; a sister, Jet Gilbert of Noblesville; brother, Wayne Oneal of Oxford; 9 grandchildren, Breanna Culross Thorpe, Johnathan Scott Brody, Chad Cooper, Lindsey Libby, Zach Hicks, Christopher Hicks, Hunter Coffman, Brogan Coffman, Grace Coffman; and 3 great-grandchildren, Gavin Libby, Olivia Libby, and Khayley Thorpe.

Along with her husband, Charles and her parents, Roy and Ada Oneal, she was preceded in death by 2 daughters, Cheryl Cooper and Karen Culross; a granddaughter, Gwynn Hicks; and 2 brothers, Don Oneal and Nels Oneal.
