Jean Marie Battles, 90, of Harding, died Saturday morning, October 14, at Advocate Good Shepherd Medical Center in Barrington.

Mrs. Battles was born on July 29, 1927 in Iola, Kansas to Roland and Elsie (Dollarhide) Hanna. She married Delbert W. Battles on August 30, 1952 at Epworth United Methodist Church in Ottawa. She was a graduate of Ottawa High School, class of 1945 and attended the L-P-O Junior College. She was a member of the Harding United Methodist Church  for over 50 years and a member of LaSalle County Home Extension for over 50 years serving on the county Extension Board for over 3 ½ years. Prior to her marriage she was employed by Buchner & O’Toole Abstracts of Title, later by Leland & Wilson, now LaSalle County Title Company. She collected dolls and antique 19th century art glass and was actively involved in competition shooting of black powder muzzle-loading rifles at various clubs for about 16 years, using fancy, carved, and engraved rifles made for her by her husband, who was also an excellent rifle and pistol shooter.

She is survived by her husband Delbert, of Harding, three daughters, Susanne (Sidney) Rich of Lanexa, Virginia, Carol (Tom) Seebauer, of Spring Grove, Illinois, Lori (Steven) Elmore of McKinney, Texas, nine grandchildren, David Passante,  Leslie Passante, and Alicia LaDow, Jessica and Mark Bowen, Jennifer Smerling, Nicholas Seebauer, and Michelle and Blake Elmore, and four great-grandchildren, Averie Bowen, Rhett Bowen, Logan Bowen and Mikey Smerling,. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a daughter, Mary Jean Hartnett.
