Jean Louise Pringle was born September 2, 1928, in Emmetsburg, Iowa. She was the daughter of Charles and Juna (Hunnel) Pringle.  Jean attended Vernon #9 Country school and graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1946.  After graduation, Jean worked at a bakery and in a law office. On August 1, 1948, she married Kenneth Hartsock in Emmetsburg.  The couple moved to a farm north of Havelock, where they raised a family and farmed for 38 years.  In 1996, Jean and Kenny moved to Mallard.   Jean was a member of the Hope United Methodist Church in Havelock and the Auxiliary Club.

She enjoyed golfing, watching birds and writing. She wrote for the Laurens Sun and Pocahontas Democrat and also wrote poems and journaled daily.   Survivors include her husband, Kenny of Mallard; children:  Dana (Ellie) Hartsock of Des Moines,IA; Demaras (Brian) Newell of Storm Lake, IA; Darry (Debbie) Hartsock of Papillion, NE and Lisa Hamilton of Mercer Island, WA; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren a sister, Eunice Nelson of Eagle Grove and several nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings.
