Jean Hammon Brooks, age 96, passed away peacefully on 30 September 2022. Jean was born prematurely on 19 December 1925 in Ogden, Utah to Daniel Glenn and Virginia Slater Hammon. She graduated Weber High School in 1944 and entered nursing school two weeks after graduation, enrolling at the Thomas D. Dee Memorial School of Nursing. After graduating as a Registered Nurse in June 1947, Jean worked mainly with pediatric and medical patients. She proudly served her country in the Army Nurses Corps during the Korean War. She trained at Brooke Army Hospital, Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas and was eventually stationed at Camp Atterbury, Indiana. She earned the rank of Captain before completing her service.
Family was always her focus. Jean’s true calling was as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She met her husband, Robert Autry Brooks M.D., during his internship at the VA Hospital in Salt Lake City, UT. They are the proud parents of Robert Hammon (Beverly) Brooks J.D. of Flagstaff, AZ and Janet Esther Brooks (Phillip N. Norton) of Marco Island, FL. Later she earned the title Grammy from her five grandchildren: Phillip Robert (Patricia) Norton, Danielle H. Norton (David) Cox, Jessica A. Norton M.D. (Zach McKenty), Lisa Jean Norton (Tanner Smith), and Rosemary Brooks Norton (Michael) Bragg. She now has eight beautiful great-grandchildren.
Jean had a special relationship with her niece Virginia L. (David) Gerrish of Warrenton, VA, her two great-nephews: Tony (Rachael) Peck and David Gerrish III and Virginia’s two grandsons. Jean was preceded in death by her brother Donald G. Hammon and sisters Sharon Hammon Bell and Glenda Hammon Guinn. She is survived by her siblings Bruce W. Hammon, Dale L. (Jerry Ann) Hammon and Arla Rae Faulkner. She has many nieces and nephews around the country that she loved very much.
Jean was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held positions in the Ward and Stake. She has lived in Arizona since 1968.
