   Jean E. Dieckgrafe was born to Herman and Elizabeth (Schutt) Kunz at St. Louis, MO on Feb. 25, 1927. She was baptized and confirmed at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in St. Louis, MO. Jean attended Holy Cross Elementary and graduated from Roosevelt High School. After graduation, Jean attended secretarial school where she learned shorthand and typing skills. She was a member of a bowling league in St. Louis and also her church youth group.

   Jean was united in marriage to Eldon Dieckgrafe on Jan. 30, 1960 at First Lutheran Church in Omaha. To this union three children were born, Jerry, James, and Janet. They made their home on the farm south of Cook where together they farmed and raised their children. Jean and Eldon were part of a neighborhood card club. Jean loved picking strawberries in her summer berry patch, antiques and going to garage sales. Jean also worked outside the home as church secretary for Grace Lutheran and as a waitress. Jean loved crocheting and knitting, making many afghans and scarves which she enjoyed giving to others. She was a fan of St. Louis Cardinals baseball and UNL and Creighton sports.

She passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Center in Syracuse, NE, at the age of 87 years and 1 month.

  Jean is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Eldon Dieckgrafe of rural Cook, sons, Jerry Dieckgrafe of Omaha and James Dieckgrafe and wife Susan and rural Cook, daughter, Janet Dieckgrafe of Kodiak, Alaska, 2 grandchildren, Kyle and Laura, brothers, Willis Kunz and wife Margaret of Chesterfield, MO and Charles Kunz and wife Gloria of Bethalto, IL, sisters, Grace Starns and husband Del of Ashland and Dorothy Cornish and husband Vernon of Omaha, nieces and nephews, special friends, Wilma Antholz and Katherine Antholz.

She was preceded in death by her parents, nieces, Kirsten Budwig and Margaret Dieckgrafe and nephews, Jonathan Cornish and David Dieckgrafe and parents-in-law, Carl and Nanka “Nanny” Dieckgrafe.
