Forever in our hearts and memories…
He was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti on February 15, 1944. Blessed with an acute intelligence, unshakeable strength of character, positive attitude, belief in God and a mother, Lucia Pierre, who saw his potential and made great sacrifices to support him; he excelled in academics and became a mathematics teacher. Searching for a better life for himself, he left Haiti and emigrated first to France and then to the United States, where he eventually made Boston his home. He worked hard to make something of himself in his new country and met his first wife, Marie Anne Carmine Michel. He became a loving step-father to Marie-Anne’s first child, Marjorie Michel, and they eventually had two children together – Jean-Claude Pierre, Jr. and Bettina Pierre.
He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Lowell and worked for Xerox Corporation, in Rochester, NY, as an engineer and eventually an Engineering Manager over the course of his nearly 30 year career at the company. He was known as a trouble-shooter and was sought after to solve some of the most complex engineering problems with the company’s flag-ship commercial printer products. It was during this time that he got divorced and became a full-time single father – raising his two children on his own. During the latter part of his tenure at that company he earned an MBA from the University of Rochester’s highly competitive Executive MBA program. Of his many achievements in his life, the one that had the most impact in people’s lives and brought him the most happiness was when he assisted the majority of his family in Haiti (nearly 20 people at the time) to emigrate to the United States.
He eventually retired and dabbled in real estate and other ventures before fate would strike again and he got re-acquainted with Florence Mont-Louis, a friend from his youth in Haiti. They eventually developed a relationship and got married.
Left partially paralyzed by the stroke, many in his position would have given up but, given his character, faith and the support of a loving wife and family, he rose to the challenge and made considerable effort to recover from his injuries and still live a fruitful and happy life. He passed away peacefully on December 12, 2021 at the age of 77. Predeceased by his sisters Gisele Pierre and Yolande Toutine; brother Raymond Pierre; and mother, Lucia Pierre.
He is survived by his wife, Florence Mont-Louis; children, Jean-Claude Pierre, Jr., Bettina Pierre and Marjorie Michel; grandchildren, Dominique, Jean-Claude III, Jacob, Emilie, Julien and Gilles; sister, Jacqueline Nherrison; and many half-sisters, half-brothers, nieces and nephews.
