Jean Jones Chenoweth, age 88, of Taneytown, MD died peacefully Sunday, September 11, 2011 at Country Care Farm Assisted Living in Westminster, MD.

Born May 21, 1923 in Highland County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Alpheus Seybert and Anne Elizabeth Jones. She was the wife of the late John Emory Chenoweth, to whom she was married for 52 years.

In addition to being a homemaker, she taught middle-school English and History in Carroll County public schools. She was a 1944 graduate of Madison College (now James Madison University) where she was president of the Student Government Association and a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority. She was a member and former Sunday School teacher at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Taneytown. She was also a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was an honorary member of the Silver Fancy Garden Club.

Surviving are daughter Kristin Tolar and husband Ronald of Dothan, AL; grandson, David Baxter Tolar and wife Megan of Gettysburg, PA; great-grandchildren, Jackson Edwin Tolar and Caelyn Annear Tolar; and brother, William Seybert Jones of Charlottesville, Virginia. She was predeceased by son, John Baxter Chenoweth and brother, Thomas Garrett Jones.
