Jean Carter Pollard, 85, passed away Monday, December 3, 2012 at her home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous fight with cancer.
Jean was born on September 22, 1927 to Willie Ray and Bessie Mae Carter in Andalusia, Alabama. She graduated from Andalusia High School in 1946 where she was a cheerleader. Soon after graduating high school, she married Bob Pollard in 1947. Eventually settling in Jackson, and making the reservoir their home, together Bob and Jean opened Capital Menswear in Jackson and Pearl, and the Sansabelt Store in Northpark Mall.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She loved her family with all of her heart and was loved by everyone she knew.
Having all of her family and friends around her gave her the greatest joy. She loved to entertain and make sure everyone else was taken care of before herself. She lived out the true meaning of the phrase: “it’s better to give than to receive”.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John Carter, Bob Carter, and Al Carter, and sister, Betty Greene.
She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Bob Pollard; daughter, Kathy Martin and husband Ron of Brandon; son, Mike Pollard and wife Brenda of Pearl; three grandsons, Justin Martin and wife Marisa of Tupelo; Josh Martin and wife Beth of Brandon; and Michael Pollard of Pearl; one great-grandson, Ridley Martin of Tupelo; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Grace Shumaker, Sta-Home Health and Hospice, Nurse Mia Thompson, and Liz Gilmer for the love and care shown during this time.
