Jean Carpenter Winton of Fairfield, wife of the late Robert Weber Winton, died Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Bridgeport Hospital. Born in Bridgeport, the daughter of the late Edward Carpenter and Grace Edna Smith, she was a lifelong Fairfield resident. Mrs. Winton graduated from the Unquowa School, the Emma Willard School and Vassar College, class of 1942. Upon graduating from Vassar, she served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. Following the War, Mrs. Winton was employed as a retail buyer for Howland’s Department Store in Bridgeport. After meeting and marrying her husband Robert she dedicated her life to raising her family and donating her time to many charitable organizations.
