Jean B. Ritacco, RN passed away peacefully at W.W. Backus Hospital on Wednesday, January 15, 2014. Born in Norwich, she was the only child of the late Charles and Anna (Gorton) Burns.
Jean was a graduate of Norwich Free Academy Class of 1946 and W.W. Backus Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1949. Her nursing career began in Jersey City, NJ before returning to her hometown and Backus Hospital where she worked in Pediatrics and Maternity for the next 38 years before retiring in December 1988.
She will be missed for her kind heart and generous spirit. Jean was a voracious reader, a gifted knitter and a happy bird watcher. She enjoyed sharing her love for gardening and cooking with everyone around her.
Jean was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, Norwichtown and a member of the Rosary Alter Society.
She was united in marriage to Frank Ritacco on September 3, 1955 at Saint Mary’s Church in Norwich. Beside her loving husband of 58 years, she is survived by her daughter Laurie Ann Ritacco, her son Thomas Ritacco and his wife Cheryl and grandson Nicholas Ritacco. She was predeceased by her granddaughter Katelyn Ritacco.
