Jean Bailey Pruett, 75, of Fair Oaks Ranch passed away on November 17, 2016 in San Antonio, TX.
Jean was born in Jonesboro, AR to Earline & Norman Bailey on March 31, 1941. She attended Leachville High School, where she was a Cheerleader, Majorette and voted Homecoming Queen. After graduation, she attended Arkansas State University. While at Arkansas State, Jean was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority, a Lambda Chi Alpha Sweetheart, Cheerleader, and was voted Miss Heart-Throb of the University’s radio station, KASU, in 1961.
While at Arkansas State, Jean met her future husband, Joe. They were married on April 6, 1962. Joe’s job took Jean to many cities, among them New Orleans, Charlotte and Atlanta. Together they raised two sons, Brett and Burt and settled in Boerne in 1978 and later Fair Oaks Ranch.
Jean’s many careers included being an elementary school teacher in Arkansas, manager of a Savings & Loan and a Vet Technician in Boerne TX. She enjoyed all types of creative activities, among them needlepoint, watercolors, sewing and painting. Jean had a green thumb when it came to Christmas cactus – she could get them to bloom twice a year.
Jean made friends easily. She enjoyed travelling, progressive dinner parties and eating out with them. Jean was a competitive golfer and tennis player. She always had a ready smile, hug and kind words for them all.
If you were to ask Jean, her greatest achievement would be being a grandmother. She wanted to be called Granny but the oldest grandchild could not pronounce it and she would become “Gaee”. Gaee always lit up with sparkles in her eyes anytime the grandkids were with her. There wasn’t a thing she wouldn’t do for them – even if that meant baking, painting, driving the golf cart or going swimming. Gaee and Joe’s house became known as Club Gaee.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; Earline & Norman Bailey, brothers William Edgar Bailey and Gary Van Bailey; and son Joseph Brett Pruett. She is survived by her loving husband, Joseph Perry Pruett of Fair Oaks Ranch, TX; Son Jeffrey Burton Pruett, wife Denise and granddaughters, Alexandra and Alyssa Pruett of San Antonio, TX; Son in Law Bill Broman, wife Theresa Broman and grandchildren, Bailey, Natalie and Joseph Pruett, step-grandchildren Danielle, Laura and Camilla Broman of Katy, TX.
