Jean B. Lonergan, 92, of Dartmouth, MA, daughter of Ruth and Hubert Brooks, died December 15, 2016. She was the beloved wife of the late William T. Lonergan Jr.
Jean, born August 28, 1924, in Derby, CT, lived most of her life in Storrs, where she taught English and Humanities at E.O. Smith High School for more than 30 years and was the longtime yearbook advisor. Jean attended the University of Michigan before serving in the Navy WAVES during World War II as a pharmacist’s mate. She graduated from Birmingham-Southern College and earned her MA and 6th Year degrees in Education from the University of Connecticut. Jean loved politics, travel, the Huskies, music, and reading everything from The Economist to romances, among other interests.
She is survived by her children, Peggy (Joseph) Hynes, Susan (John) Rogers, Anne (David) Humphrey, John Lonergan, Robert (Penny) Lonergan and Patrick (Allyson) Lonergan. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Robert (Mary) Lonergan, a large and loving family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and those whom she considered special kin. Jean was predeceased by her brothers William and Richard Brooks.
