Jaunita Von (Jennings) Schmalen was born on March 10, 1924, the daughter of Roy and Gusta (Cramblet) Jennings. She grew up on a farm west of West Bend and attended school at West Bend. Jaunita was married in l946 to Harold Schmalen. She worked most of her life at the Ford Garage. In 1991, her husband, “Stub”, passed away. She continued to live in their home until 2014 when she moved to Prairie Creek Assisted Living in West Bend. On May 3, she entered the Kossuth Regional Health Center where she remained a patient until her death on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at the age of 91. Survivors include her “children”, Judy (Dennis) Fehr of West Bend, Joleen (Marvin) Metzger of Rock Rapids, IA, Mike (Lila) Wirtz of Goodfield, IL, Jim (Joan) Wirtz of West Bend, Chuck (Trela) Wirtz of Whittemore, and Doug (Angie) Wirtz of West Bend. She is also survived by one sister, Marjorie Hawes of Metropolis, IL and numerous “grandchildren”, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, “Stub”, her parents, two brothers, eight sisters and one “grandson”, Adam Wirtz.
