OXFORD Rev. Jasper Benton “J.B.” Ellis, Sr. 85, of Oxford, died on Wednesday, October 22, 2014.
Rev. Ellis was born in Collins, Mississippi to the late James Benton Ellis and Edna Sellers Ellis. He served in the U. S. Army. He had been in the ministry for 57 years. He pastored churches in Georgia, Mississippi and North Carolina. Pastor Ellis was a builder, building churches, Bible schools, both in the U.S. and other countries. He was a pastor, teacher, church planter, planting churches both in America and abroad. Pastor Ellis served on the Presbytery board for 17 years in the N. C. District Assemblies of God. He loved his family, his church family, his farm, hunting and fishing, and was well loved by all. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian S. Ellis.
He is survived by his two sons, J. B. Ellis, Jr. of Willow Spring and Bart Ellis of Dayton, Ohio; three daughters, Elaine Ellis of Durham, Debra Bercaw of Oxford and Angela Pulley of Charlotte; two brothers, Buck Ellis and Sammy Ellis both of Collins, Miss.; four sisters, Jean Smith of Petal, Miss., Martha Schmidt of Birmingham, Ala., Madeline Allred of Collins Miss. and Nell Germann of Durham; 12 grandchildren, Michelle Carillet, Sarah Ellis, Jennifer Chavis, Matt Ellis, Marissa Olivarez, Caleb Ellis, Mikaela Ellis, Chloe, Cayla , Cassidi Bercaw, Lyndsie Ruthenburg and Kelsea McMahon; four great-grandchildren, Alexia and Seth Carillet, Ruben Olivarez and Quinn Ellis.
