“A Time to Be Born” (Ecc 3:2)

Jason Terrell Riley was born on February 14, 1978 in San Diego, California to Minnie F. McCastle-Riley and Willie T. Riley.

“A Time to Live”

Jason was raised in San Diego, California in a loving home created by his parents. Jason was a very lovable child. His parents were very proud of him. He was the baby and was adored and loved by all. He was a very intelligent young man who exhibited mature qualities at an early age. His intellectual mind was far beyond his years. The boy was sharp! He was also a great athlete. He loved sports where he excelled in Pop Warner football and Little League baseball.

Jason attended Freese Elementary and Ray Kroc Jr. High School in the San Diego Unified School District and graduated in 1996 from Glen Mills High School in Philadelphia, PA with academic honors.

Jason went on to marry his high school sweetheart, Johnetta Lacy. Together they created their son Jason T. Riley Jr.

Jason returned home to San Diego, California where he attended Mesa College. While there Jason played football and excelled as one of the best players on the team. Unfortunately he had to put his dream of playing professional ball aside due to multiple physical injuries. He decided a change was necessary. In 2002 he moved to Arizona where he continued his education and worked for General Motors’ Duramax. Missing home, Jason decided to return in 2004.

Jason had a willingness and passion to succeed. He worked at a number of different companies looking for something that would best utilize his skills and talents. His last employer was UPS where he was a delivery operator.

Jason had a smile that was contagious and would brighten up any situation. He enjoyed people and having a good time whether he was hanging out with family or friends, supporting one of his favorite sport teams, or traveling. He made the best of everything and took nothing for granted. There was nothing more important to him than his children and his family.

Jason could also be described as a “no-nonsense” man. He was genuine, liked “keeping things real” and avoided unnecessary conflict. He was also unselfish and generous. Those that knew Jason knew that he would give you the shirt off his back; he would sacrifice his own needs to satisfy the needs of others. When he said he was your friend, you could depend on that being exactly what he meant. He stood by his word. Jason was a “ladies man”, not in the worldly sense, but in his family’s eyes. There are so many women in his family who loved and adored him. He could do no wrong in his Aunt Doris eyes, or his sister Stacey’s for that matter, for he was the apple of their eyes. Jason had so much love and respect for his family, especially his Uncle Bill whom he especially admired. He was the “Baby Boy”. No matter what he did no one could stay upset with him for too long. It was that smile – or that saying, “You look like you could use a hug?”. Some of his favorite past times were spent riding his bike out to the beach, and running out by the ocean. He loved the beaches out in Coronado. He also enjoyed going to Del Mar and Caliente with his Dad. Family was very important to Jason and, he touched the lives of so many.

“A Time to Mourn” (Ecc 3:4)

Jason leaves to cherish his memory: His loving and devoted mother Minnie F. McCastle and father Willie T. Riley; children Jason Terrell Riley Jr. and Shabrea Teaira Riley; granddaughter Jaleyia Renee Riley; brothers Anthony Riley, Willie T. Riley, Jr., Brian Kirkendall and Clavon Kirkendall, Jr.; sisters Stacey (Charles) Demley, Kimberley (Alonzo) Turner, Stephanie Hill, Tynette Humphries, Traci and Vanessa Kirkendall; Very special friends Kendra Curtis, Shauna Price and Dexter Hardison; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews as well as great nieces and nephews, and many cousins and friends who will miss him dearly and continue to celebrate his life. Jason’s charming personality, contagious smile and beautiful spirit will live on.

The Lord saw fit to call Jason Terrell Riley Sr. into eternal life on Monday, July 22, 2013.
