Jason Parks Penkava, 41, of Asheboro, died Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at Duke Regional Hospital in Durham.

Jason was born in Asheboro on October 13, 1978 to David and Betty Lindley Penkava and graduated from Asheboro High School. His last employment was with Waugh Asphalt in Franklinville, but he spent a number of years as a semi-truck driver. He enjoyed hunting deer and groundhogs, fishing, hiking/backpacking, canoeing and being outdoors. Jason sang with the group Southbound 49 in its early years and enjoyed all types of music, especially bluegrass. His infectious smile and personality could spread to everyone in a group. His short life had a positive impact on so many others. Jason was preceded in death by his grandparents, Louis and Sybil Penkava, and J.D. and Helen Lindley.

Survivors: daughter, Emma Jo Penkava, of Asheboro, parents, David and Betty Lindley Penkava, of Asheboro, brothers, Eric Penkava, and wife, Sonya, of Franklinville, and Alex Penkava, of Asheboro, three nieces and one nephew.

The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to the staff of Duke Regional Hospital for their intensive care and concern for Jason during his stay there.
