Mrs. Jannie Denise Wilcox Gillespie was born October 3, 1955 to Zebedee Wilcox and Lois Kerr Wilcox in Sampson County. She was called home to be with the Lord on April 11, 2016. Jannie received her education at Garland Elementary School and Garland High School. At an early age she joined Garland First Baptist Church and later Mt. Olive AME Church. Jannie worked at Garland Shirt Company until health issues forced her to retire. Jannie had many talents, but she mostly loved gardening, cooking and shopping.
She was preceded in death by her mother Mrs. Lois Kerr Wilcox and brother Zebedee Wilcox Jr.
Loving memories will be forever cherished in the hearts of many such as: her husband, Walter T. Gillespie of the home; her father, Zebedee Wilcox of Garland, NC, one son, Jermaine Cromartie (Katina) of Hawaii, one step-daughter, Kessia J. Singleton (Samuel) of Elizabethtown, NC ; one granddaughter, Jaliyah Cromartie; four grandsons: Jared Cromartie, Trovoy Johnson, Charles Hayward and Ricco Hayward, two sisters: Rose Murphy (Bobby) of Garland, NC and Elaine Wilcox of Roseboro, NC; Mother-in-law, Connie Gillespie of Elizabethtown, NC; one aunt, Francis Carr of Fayetteville, NC; five sister-in-laws: Barbara Durham, Marion Gillespie, Cynthia Gillespie, Gail Gillespie and Bernice Wilcox; special cousin, Vernell Bennett (Nemiah); special friend, Doris Powell, Pernell Johnson, Mary Keelan and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
