Janis Marie Wegs passed away Monday, October 16, 2017, at Saint Luke’s Hospice House, Kansas City, KS following a long illness. Janis was born November 29, 1955, in Moberly and was the daughter of Betty (Hauck) and Bernard John Wegs.
She is survived by her sons, Casey Sumpter and his spouse, Jennifer, and granddaughters, Cheyanne and Jayci of Jacksonville, MO, Stacey Sumpter and his spouse, Nathan Farris-Sumpter, and grandson, Stephaun of Kansas City, KS; her mother Betty Helmich of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; sister Patricia Wessel and her children, Kimberly Wessel, and Brett Wessel of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; her brothers, Michael Wegs and his spouse, Michael Fleming of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; David McClay of Pensacola, FL; Larry Wegs and spouse, Jan, and his sons, Shaun and Eric of Jefferson City; Jeffery Wegs and spouse, Jennifer, and his sons Adam, Alex and Armin of Moberly; and nieces, Alex Wegs of Rolla, MO and Emily Wegs of China Springs, TX.
She was preceded in death by her father; brother, Gary Wegs; sister, Barbara Wegs; and grandparents, John and Margery Snell and Emil and Dora Wegs.
She is an alumna of Saint Pius X Elementary School and Moberly High School, and attended Moberly Area Community College. She was the quintessential Elvis Presley fan. She visited Graceland for annual celebrations of the singers’ life. She also was an avid craft artist.
