Northington, Janie, of Birmingham, passed away on Christmas afternoon, December 25, 2010. Mrs. Northington was born in Birmingham, but spent, her early years in West Point, Mississippi before returning back to Birmingham with her family. She was a graduate of Phillips High School. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Fred Northington, a career Birmingham firefighter. She always considered herself, first and foremost, a mother and a wife– and the wife of a fireman. The Northington’s were longtime members at West End Methodist Church, Taylor Memorial Methodist Church, and Alabaster First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Northington was an active participant in her church, United Methodist women’s organization, overseas missions, and was a strong supporter and den mother in the Scouting program, and Little League baseball. Services will be on Tuesday, December 28 at Alabaster First United Methodist Church.
