Janie G. Dickerson of Lincoln, Illinois, formerly of O’Fallon, Illinois, died April 17, 2013 at The Christian Village in Lincoln. Mrs. Dickerson, nee Gilliland, was born in Macon, North Carolina. She attended Meredith College in Raleigh, NC.
She was a retired teacher, having taught 43 years, 25 in North Carolina and 18 in O’Fallon, Ill. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of O’Fallon, the St. Clair County Retired Teachers Association, and formerly served on the O’Fallon Planning Commission. Mrs. Dickerson was preceded in death by her husband, William M. Dickerson Sr., parents Lucie, nee Shearin, and James H. Gilliland, twin brother James D. Gilliland, and a sister Virginia G. Bailey.
Surviving are her son William M. (Janice) Dickerson of Lincoln, Ill., granddaughter Phyllis Ann (Tom) Heleniak of Gilberts, Ill., great-grandson Rowan W. Heleniak, nephew Roy Bailey of Buckingham, Virginia, niece Carol Peterson of Albuquerque, New Mexico, cousins Betty Jean G. Woodruff of North Carolina and Maynard Haithcock of Virginia, one great-niece and one great-nephew.
