Janice M. Simmons, 77, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2022, after a brief battle with cancer.
Born in Akron on April 2, 1945 to the late Frank & Winnie Binns, Jan was a lifelong area resident. She graduated from Kenmore High School in 1963 and went on to be a radiology technician and worked 30 years at Akron General Medical Center, where she retired as a supervisor of Radiology in 2000. Jan enjoyed fishing, reading and was an avid bird watcher. She was a doting grandmother to two of her grandkids and six great-grandkids.
In addition to her parents, Jan was preceded in death by her sister Carol Fry; and nephew Andrew Thompson. She is survived by her daughter Michele (Steve) McCrary; grandchildren Stephen (Ashley) and Chelsea (Adam) Wylie; great-grandchildren Samuel, Natalie, Jenna, Emma, Jordan, and Caden; dear friend and ‘adpoted daughter’ Marie Hooper; siblings Eileen Espy and Gary Binns; and many nieces and a nephew.
