She was always a glass full type of person and encouraged her children in the belief that they could accomplish anything to which they set their minds. One summer in helping her twin sister, Janice cared for her 6 nieces and nephews in addition to her 5 children, resulting in 11 children under age 12 in one three-bedroom home. She always said the most difficult part was keeping track of 22 shoes. Janice worked for AT&T for approximately 30 years, retiring in 1997. She was active in volunteer organizations, most notably the Indiana Chapter of Jayshees. She devoted many hours to assisting in designing and completing the scenic backdrops for several years for the Junior Miss USA Pageants. Janice is predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Elvan Cecil. Also, her mother Marjorie, twin sister Joyce Piersall, brother Mark Garringer, daughter Mary Howe, two grandchildren, Haley Snyder and Holly Howe and son-in-law Dan Dougherty.
