Janice Ann Phoenix, 92, of Scottsdale, Arizona,

passed away on September 23, 2022. She was

born to parents Minnie and Leslie Waite, on

May 23, 1930, in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada.

After moving to the US, she graduated from

Most Holy Rosary High School in Syracuse,

New York, in 1948.

Continuing her Catholic studies, College

brought her out to Tucson, Arizona where she

earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at

St. Mary’s School of Nursing, graduating as a

Registered Nurse. After over 40 years of

Perpetual Help as the School’s Nurse.

Janice met William (Her Bill) Becker Phoenix in 1956. They married on August 23, 1958, in

Syracuse, NY. They moved to Arizona in 1970, proudly raising their five children: Jerry,

Kathy, Bill, John, and Jim. After 43 wonderful years together, Bill senior went to be with the

LORD in 2001.

Janice was a devout Catholic, attending weekly Catholic Mass, and serving in the

Eucharistic Ministry at OLPH. She enjoyed sharing stories with her family and friends while

she sipped a hot cup of tea. She loved her daily walks, sweets (especially chocolate)

gardening – she had amazing roses, watching and cheering on her favorite sports teams,

ASU football, Diamondbacks baseball, the Suns, and the Cardinals – she was a true

hometown fan. Janice was an avid ice skater in her youth, a great friend to many, and was

recognized as, “The Sweetest Gal” in her high school yearbook. She loved traveling to the

beaches in California and spending summers at the family cabin in Munds Park.

Janice is survived by her sister-in-law, Janet Waite; her loving children, Jerry Phoenix,

Kathy Phoenix, Bill Phoenix (Julie), John Phoenix (Meleni), Jim Phoenix (Jacquie Wolff), her

grandchildren Ashley Riedesel (Connor), Tommy D’Ambrosio (Vivianna), Matthew Phoenix

(Courtney), Amanda Mohadjer (Nic), Jenissa Phoenix (Candace Milbourne), and David

Phoenix, and five great-grandchildren, Paityn, Avery, Tommy, Nash, and Oakley. She is

also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loved ones whom she

cherished.

Janice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill Phoenix, her parents, Leslie and

Minnie Waite, and her brothers, John and Gary Waite.

The Viewing is Friday, October 7, from 5-6 PM, with a Rosary to follow at 6 PM, located at

Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85251.
