Janet Jones Tackett, 78, a lifelong resident of Anderson and elementary school teacher for 30 years, died early Wednesday after complications from open-heart surgery.
She was a member of St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church. Mrs. Tackett also was a member of numerous civic organizations and in retirement also worked as a volunteer at St. John?s Health System. She was a member of Current Events, Victoria Guild, Mid-Century Club and Tri Kappa. She also was a member of Edgewood Country Club. A graduate of Anderson High School in 1943, Mrs. Tackett attended St. Mary of the Woods College during her freshman year, then transferred to Indiana University where she earned a bachelor?s degree in elementary education.
At the age of 50, she earned her master?s degree in education from Ball State University. She also had an avid interest in politics. Born on July 16, 1925, she was the daughter of Walter and Nell Jones, who preceded her in death along with a brother, Walter, Jr. and a sister, Barbara Kelly.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert; two daughters, Barbara Michael Vetor; Mary Ann Richard Wildman and a son, Michael Julie Carey Tackett; six grandchildren, Andrew and Josh Vetor, Ben and Patrick Wildman and Lee and Katherine Tackett; she is also survived by her sister, Dorothy Poat and 11 nieces and nephews.
