Janet Reffer, age 60, of Algona passed away on March 21, 2020 at home with her husband by her side. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Janet Colleen Smith, the daughter of Robert Alan and Anna Marie (Paul) Smith, was born on April 29, 1959 in Iowa City, Iowa. At age 7, she was on the children’s variety show, Uncle Dick’s Fun House, at which time she was given the nickname “Hollywood” by close family members. To this day many still call her that. In her senior year in high school, Janet worked at the Algona Drive In Theatre where she met a lot of the “Old Gang”. She graduated from Algona High School in 1977. On June 3, 1983 Janet was united in marriage with Don Reffer in Algona. She had worked for many businesses in the Algona area but most recently as a bookkeeper for B & W Control Specialists and in the school lunch program for the Algona Community School District. Janet loved going to the Casino, working puzzels, playing cards, especially Tiki with her niece Carol Burtis and her “Driving Miss Daisy” chauffer, good friend Bill Walker, traveling with her sisters, cousins and nieces, driving her car she named Carly and spending time with her grandkids. Left to cherish Janet’s memory is her husband of 36 years, Don; a daughter, Holly Reffer of Algona and her significant other, Bo Terwilliger; a son, Nate Reffer of Livermore and his significant other, Bobbie Dodrill; a special nephew, Christian Day and his daughter, Caidence Day; four grandchildren, Cohen Reffer, Porter Reffer, Grayson Terwilliger and Payten Terwilliger; three sisters, Susan (Dennis) Wilson of Algona, Judy (Calvin) Williams-Smith of Lytton and Barbara (Jeff) Hansen of Estherville; and a brother, Larry (Sheryl) Smith of Algona; sister-in-law, Dana (Duane) Walker of Algona; brother-in-law, Bob (Jan) Reffer of Booneville, Arkansas and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant twin brothers; a brother, Gene Smith; a sister, Kathryn Smith; a sister-in-law, Kathy Smith; a niece, Kristen Smith; sister-in-law, Cathy Dahlgren and several aunts and uncles.
